A Day In My Life, 629 Days Later…

629 days ago, this is what a day in my life was like. Things have definitely changed since then! 225 days ago (June 24, 2009) I left the security of my salaried job to become a full-time, self-employed tattooist.

Erik
Your blog host with the most. Most what? I'm not sure...

Now my "typical" day is as follows:

I wake up when I want, without an alarm clock, which is usually around 9:30 AM. (Although the Husbear always kisses me goodbye as he heads off to work around 7:30.) I usually do some paperwork or other chores around the house before I get ready to go to the tattoo studio. I usually get there about 11:30 or so, clean, and prepare for the day.

Insert sitting for 7 to 10 hours here: doodling, tattooing, cleaning tools, surfing the web, etc.

After the tattoo studio, I head home. Usually between 8 or 10 PM, and sometimes much later depending on the day.

I sit around with the Husbear for a little bit before he goes to bed around 10:30 PM. After which point I usually play on the computer until I go to bed around 1 AM.

Seemingly more simplified than before.

My body has "normalized" to being awake for that schedule, but I really need to retrain myself so I go to sleep when the Husbear does. I miss that.

The weirdest part is being off on Sundays and Mondays. It makes it difficult to do anything with any friends who have the "normal" Monday-through-Friday jobs. Not that I really ever did a lot with anyone to begin with anyway. And I do have the same days off as the Husbear, so that's nice we get to spend time together.

Until next time...
Erik

Up To The Roof

All I see it's not for me.
What I want you have not got.
Tried to use the things you sold me, no matter what the cost.
Tried to go the way you told me, but each time, I got lost.
The stairs didn't lead me anywhere!

I'm taking the fire escape up to the roof.
Don't care if it's not the way you find the truth.
Time to make this climb to rise above.
This room and all of you who say I should do like you would.
Tried to live the life you sold me, no matter what the cost.
Tried to walk the way you told me, but each time I got lost.
The stairs didn't lead me anywhere!

I'm taking the fire escape up to the roof.
Don't care if it's not the way you find the truth.
And when I get up that high, I don't know what I'll find.
But I'd rather look at the sky than wonder why I let you take my time.
Time to make this climb to rise above.

I'm taking the fire escape up to the roof.
Don't care if it's not the way you find the truth.
And when I get up that high, I don't know what I'll find.
But I'd rather look at the sky than wonder why I let you take my time.
Time to make this climb to rise above.
Time to make this climb to rise above.

And yes, Tracy Bonham still rocks.

Until next time...

Kreativ Blogger Award meme

Took me a while to post this. I've been busy. Yeah, that's it. Busy.

It seems all of this meme is really about #4 anyway. Oh, and recognizing your peers.

In order to receive the award, there are some rules to follow:

1. Thank the person who nominated you for this award.
2. Copy the logo and place it on your blog.
3. Link to the person who nominated you for this award.
4. Name 7 things about yourself that people might find interesting.
5. Nominate 7 Kreativ Bloggers.
6. Post links to the 7 blogs you nominate.
7. Leave a comment on each of the blogs letting them know they have been nominated.

1. Thank the person who nominated you for this award.
Thank you to both Jim and YvesPaul!

2. Copy the logo and place it on your blog.
There appears to be two different logos? This one is from Jim:
Kreativ Blogger Award, logo 2

And this one if from YvesPaul:
Kreativ Blogger Award, logo 1

I think I like the one YvesPaul has better. It looks a lot more "Kreativ". And a lot less like Grandma threw up.

3. Link to the person who nominated you for this award.
Both Jim and YvesPaul "nominated" me with the "Kreativ Blogger Award".

4. Name 7 things about yourself that people might find interesting.

  1. I have extremely flat feet. To the point I used to wear (and am supposed to still wear) custom corrective arches.
  2. I got my first tattoo in 1995. It was more than a decade before I got my next one.
  3. I am nearsighted. Extremely. Anything more than 7 inches away from my eye is blurry. A foot or more away and it's like the blocked-out faces on "Cops".
  4. I mentally re-write the lyrics to most songs... in my head. And then I can never hear the original lyrics when the real song actually plays, I just hear mine.
  5. I had both my nipples pierced in the past. Hated the piercings; twas not for me.
  6. I used to have a hard time getting rid of things/throwing things out. I've gotten a lot better "simplifying" in the last couple of years.
  7. For some unknown reason I posted this picture on Twitter/Facebook the other night. I think I was having a psychotic moment. I guess I should consider it an incentive to do push-ups... or something. (Update: Apparently the image was posted to guyswithiphones.com at some point. Embarrassment x10! I guess that's how the Internet works....)

5. Nominate 7 Kreativ Bloggers.
I'm fairly certain this has already hit almost every blog on the planet. I'm just late to the party. So I'll be nice and say all the blogs I follow. Because they are all awesome. ;-)

6. Post links to the 7 blogs you nominate.
See #5.

7. Leave a comment on each of the blogs letting them know they have been nominated.
Why aren't numbers 5, 6, and 7 all just one step? Really?

Until next time...
Erik
