Blue Bird of Happiness. Not so much.

Are the Hellidays over yet?

I’m already tired of hearing about this sale, and that sale, or this “must have” Xmas item. Actually, I was tired of them about 360 days ago; and, I was just about recovered from that round and then this round started up.

Does anyone remember when the Hellidays were not all about conspicuous consumption? I’m guessing it was sometime around the start of the Industrial Revolution, but I could be wrong.

Spring can’t get here soon enough.

Until next time...
Erik

  1. I am SO glad my family has been so fractured by divorce and distance that we don’t really do gifts anymore.

It is SO nice not to have to buy for others at the holidays!

    1. We bought for our kids when they were younger, but now that they’re all adults, not so much. I’ve bought for my nieces and nephews in the past, but now that my siblings are breeding like rabbits, not so much…

  2. I’m 100% serious in my post too. It was the best news when the family decided we all had enough shit and we would forego gifts.

  3. The only ones that usually get presents are my sisters’ kids and they’re going to be sorely disappointed now I’m out of work. I like Christmas dinner. Not arsed about the rest.

    1. Obviously when our kids were younger, we did gifts. But now that their adults, not so much. I’ve done the same for my nieces and nephews, but now that there’s so damned many of them, again not so much.

But it’s all this faux holly-jolliness that people feel the need to fake that drives me nuts.

  4. I’m making canned goods (pickles and carmelized onions) for presents this year instead of spending money. except the boyfriend is getting some awesome presents

    1. Not that that holiday is much better in terms of conspicuous consumption, but its music is much less annoying.

  5. I used to be a Jehovah’s Witness….So the forced buying of gifts is really hard for me. I like to just surprise someone with a gift the I stumble upon when out shopping. Sometimes you find something that you know someone would love. I dont’ care what time of the year, I just wrap it up and give it to them. I think it’s more appreciated.
My family (never JW’s) are used to me not giving gifts, so none are expected. And all the kids are grown up, so I’m off the hook there.
I like how families get together, that is the only good thing about the Hellidays

  6. My friends and family get gift cards. If, that is, they haven’t pissed me off too much during the year leading up to this FSM awful holiday.
