The Downstairs Bedroom

Five months later, we have finally started reconstruction of the room! It was a long winter… but that’s no excuse. We just bit off a little more than we could chew at that time. This past week I was able to remove the remaining floor joists, install a new header joist and band joists, and install most of the floor joists and some of the bridging. Hopefully I’ll be able to finish the remaining bridging during the week after work so I can start working on the floor insulation this coming weekend.

We’re moving the salon! After 5+ years in Rogers, we have decided to move the salon (sans tanning) to Bentonville, from where most of our clientele comes. The Husbear and I decided that tanning is not the direction we want to continue with, so we have re-geared the new salon to be more inclusive of hair services and massage therapy. We signed a five year lease today for a 1440 square-foot location in a new plaza that has just been built. The location is next door to a nail salon, so we should both be a draw for each other. Construction should be finished mid-May, so the Grand Opening should be sometime in May.

Another break in! It had to be the same people as before because they took the same type of stuff–the remainder of the DVDs, a good chunk of our CDs, and a bunch of VCR tapes. What gets us is we have electronics laying all around the house and none of that was taken. It’s probably a bunch of kids? We don’t know how they got in though. There were no signs of forced entry. We don’t know if it’s someone who somehow has a key or not. So, we ran to Lowe’s that night and bought a lock/deadbolt combo kit for all three exterior doors and changed all the locks and added deadbolts.

Introducing Grizz

Since the break-in while I was gone, the Husbear has really been wanting to get another dog. So, he called down to the Springdale Animal Shelter today to ask about animals. Next thing I know, the Husbear dragged me out into the car and we’re on our way down there. We had a few dogs to choose from, mostly puppies. But we rescued a 3 year old Rottweiler/Chow mix. He’s entirely rust colored, but has all the typical Rott features, the Chow tongue markings, and he’s very well tempered. He’s already started marking his territory outside, and stays by my feet in the house. He was a stray the animal shelter picked up, so no one knows his story. We found out after the adoption that he was supposed to have been put to sleep last week, but the workers just couldn’t do it. He’ll be a great addition to the family, and to watch the farm.
