  1. It is an interesting (if extremely staged) experiment. I only wish they did not label him “hearing impaired” instead of “Deaf”. Beyond the label, what it does is focus on the “impairment”, the difference from a perceived normality, rather than the common humanity. The many Deaf people I know do appreciate the new possibilities opened by technologies that are not only targeted to oral communication. Social attitudes towards difference, however, don’t seem to evolve quite as fast…
