Stop: Florida Time!

Mentally I just realized that in a week I’ll be in Florida. I’m glad I remembered to pre-mark that time off in my appointment book.

This year, the Husbear and I will be driving the 1138 miles from Pea Ridge to Orlando. Mostly because it’s way cheaper than flying thanks to the fuel-efficiency of the Prius. Mostly. Plus we get to sight-see along the way. And we’ll be picking up some friends half-way along the journey in Birmingham for a shared ride.

This will be our sixth trip to Florida for Gay Days. The Husbear We actually go mostly for the Tidal Wave Party at Wet ‘n Wild on Friday, and the “goings-on” that occur at the Parliament House all weekend, but usually manage to make it to Disney World on Saturday. But actually it’s a time to hang out with friends we don’t get to see but a few times a year.

Of course there will be no living with the Husbear for the next week as the date draws closer. He’s like a kid who’s been told he’s going to Disney World. Oh, wait….

I guess this also means I need to make some sort of effort to visit the parental units and the siblings while I’m there, since they all live in the Orlando area. Not that they ever come see me in Arkansas….

Until next time...

  1. I think next year I want to do a series of gay trips that I’ve never done– gay days at Disney, a trip to palm springs, etc.

  2. OMG! Someone else who calls their M&D “the parental units”!! Hoorah!!
Sounds like a great great trip, and I hope you both have an amazing time!

    1. I use that term and “not the biologicals” interchangeably when describing the parental units. People tend to just look at me oddly when I say either. I’m okay with that.

And thank you. We’re planning on it!

  3. I’ve always wanted to try the Gay Days at Walt Disney World. The past few at Disneyland have been fun — especially getting all the bears together for the Grizzly River Run (GRR!) rafts. I just imagine everything would be on a larger scale in Florida.

    1. We’ve never been to Disneyland. Then again, the last park I ever went to in California was Knott’s Berry Farm when I was a wee kiddo.

I love the WDW parks in Orlando, probably because I grew up there, and there are so many options and so much room. And then there’s the Bears Gathering at Country Bear Jamboree which is fun.

  4. I drive a 2008 Prius. Love it. I am currently getting 50.3 average MPG. But on a round to trip to work (108 miles) I’ve gotten 63.4 I best yet. How is your milage?

  5. I am trying to get Mark to go to Disneyland for my graduation next year. That or Hawaii. Either way i would be like a kid in a candy store.

  6. Finally! Now I know where I know you from. Greg and I were at Gay Days in 2003 too. I remember you from the Tea Cup ride. You were cruising the shit out of me. That was you, right?

  7. Haven’t missed a Gay Days since I moved here in 1994 (back when it was “Gay Day,” singular), but have yet to do the Tidal Wave party. Maybe in ’12. (And my last stop by the P House during Gay Days was when the Full Moon was still open next door … man, do I miss that place.)

    1. That’s a lot of Gay Days’! The Tidal Wave party is fun. At least I enjoy it. Mostly because I remember Wet ‘n Wild growing up, so it’s kind of a flashback for me. But more gay.

I too miss the Full Moon. So many bears. It seems that a lot of them at least show up at the P House these days.

  8. Duuude. I live an hour north of B’Ham, and it’s still a schlog to Orlando from here! About a 670 mile Schlog. You guys are waay better men than I. I’m flying.

    1. When I was younger, I used to make the ArkansasFlorida drive in a non-stop 22 hours trip. Granted, that was about 18 years ago. But it’s still not a bad drive when you’re dividing it up among 4 peoples… 😉

  9. If you’re going to be there anyway, stop in and say “hi” to my mother for me. We moved to Orlando the year before Disney opened. The changes in the area since then are incredible. I’ve never done Gay Days, but I’d love to. Haven’t been to the park(s) in years.
