I have this method of ranking music in my library, which currently consists of 34,968 songs: By default, all new songs in my library get ⭐️⭐️⭐️. As I listen to them, I sort them as follows: ⭐️ means it’s “rubbish” (as Dr. Spo would say) and I’ll probably delete it from the library, ⭐️⭐️ means it’s just “meh” but I’ll probably keep it, ⭐️⭐️⭐️ means it’s okay and we will probably talk over it, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ means I really like and may potentially sing at random, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ means everyone better shut the fuck up because my song is on! You know the kind of songs I’m talking about. We all have them.

These are mine, one post at a time.

I’m starting my approach to this with songs I’ve given ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ to in iTunes. There’s only 90 of them at the moment. I’ll probably sneak in an occasional ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ as well.

Back when I moved to Northwest Arkansas, there was an alternative radio station on the air that used to play all those little not-played on the radio songs.

This was one of them. I liked it so much I actually called the radio station to ask who it was, and what the song was. You know, like we had to do back before SoundHound and Shazam existed.

From their 1996 album “Count to Ten”, I give you Frogpond’s “Be”.

I was unaware that they had two other albums, or were from Missouri, until I started Googling for this post.

Until next time...

I’ve mentioned this song once, but never in this context. And this is definitely a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ song for me. Probably one of my favorite songs off the Funplex album.

Maybe Blobby will even like this one.

If I’m on an open road when this song comes on, I might find myself slowly swerving back-and-forth down the road…

Another ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ entry!

This is one of those songs I like the “grittiness” of. Not that it’s gritty. But something about it feels that way. I don’t know if it’s from conditioning from seeing it in about a million movies that take place in the Vietnam-era or what.

There’s also something very Scooby Doo-ish to this song for me. You know that part in the episodes where they were running back and forth between doors away from and into villains and such? That’s what it feels like.

I give you Barry Mann’s song that The Animals’ took the demo of in 1965 and did what they did to it, “We’ve Gotta Get Out of This Place”.

Mono version, as it was recorded:

And a released stereo modification of it:

Oddly enough, lead singer Eric Burdon’s voice aged, but as terribly as I would have expected.

Until next time...

Hi-Fi Friday: May 5, 2017… but a day late

Blobby kindly let me off the hook this month with all the goings on here post flooding and such. So no theme this month.

This is another ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ song for me. Not sure totally why, other than it pleases my ears.

Hi-Fi Friday: April 28, 2017

Blobby‘s month to pick the theme, and he chose days of the week. And made it tougher to boot: whatever day of the week you start with, you have to then go sequentially – so, if you start with a Tuesday, then your subsequent weeks have to be Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Blobby started with The Cure’s “Friday I’m in Love”. I thought for a wee bit about whether I should be smart/evil and start with a Saturday song, so I could kill any possibility of song choice overlap. I wonder if he thought about that with this?

I went the evil route, because… me.

Last week was a Tuesday song, so here goes Wednesday.

Wednesday.

Hmm… Wednesday.

Wednesday.

Hmm…

Only one came to mind, and there’s only 7 listed in my library. So we’re going with the one that came to mind, and that’s only because of the Husbear.
