Three Years Later

Progress was made today on the master bathroom addition. You remember, that one that started in one form or another THREE FREAKIN’ YEARS AGO?

The last big chunk of work was done back in November 2010. Since then, it’s essentially just sat idle as we’ve worked on other projects like remodeling both businesses and the laundry room. And since we are paying for it all out of pocket, it takes time.

It took me most of the day but I was able to run the majority of the MC cable today. Well, yesterday now. You can kind of see it all in the pictures below.

Entryway into the existing bedroom.
Entryway into the existing bedroom.

That’s the entryway into what will become the walk-in closet, master bedroom, and vestibule library. It all sounds grandiose, I know.

To the right of the door is where the double sink vanity will begin.

Immediately to the right of the previous photo, the area for the sinks.

And that’s where the rest of the vanity will continue. The idea is to have a double sink vanity with center tower cabinet.

To the right of that is the walk-in shower.

Adjacent and to the right of the previous photo, the shower and watercloset.

It’s a rather large walk-in shower, to be sure.

To the right of the shower, the watercloset.

And next to the shower is the watercloset. Yes. A room just for the toilet. I really think it’s a necessity with the Husbear. Because, well, yeah.

Back in the existing bedroom, the location for the electrical subpanel.

A subpanel has to be installed for the new power connections.

Tomorrow I’ll run the service cable from the exterior main breaker box to the new subpanel, and install the subpanel. I also need to install the bathroom fan/light combos in both the watercloset and the shower area.

Then we’ll get all that checked off by the electrician and connected.

I’ll also run speaker wires, CAT5e, and COAX cables. Because the bathroom will be a happening place!

After that, we start sheetrocking!!!

Until next time...
Erik

  1. Lookin’ good, Mr. Rubright. We missed you at the campfire this evening (or should I say last night), but it appears as though you did quite a bit of work so we’ll excuse your absence this time. 🙂

    1. Yes, we missed you. Yes, we understand your excuse. Yes, we love you. Everything is coming together & looking good. I really wish I had your knowledge and skills.

  2. We also have a walk-in shower, 4′ x 7′ with two shower heads and we LOVE it. It’s also great when we have the boys over for an evening of sauna and assorted misbehavior. Enjoy yours!

    1. We haven’t’ decided what shower head configuration we are going to go with. We have a shallow hand-dug well, and as a result don’t have much water at our ready disposal.

I’m just looking forward to having a place to sit down in the shower, if even for a moment!

  3. I’m very impressed by all that handiwork. We did the same eons ago at our last house. Our 6×6 bathroom took us 11 mos. This last time, as you know, we contracted it out. WAY too expensive, but at least it’s done.

    1. There have been times I’ve wanted to throw my hands up in the air and call a contractor to complete it. That entire “I need to make time to work on it among all the other things going on” gets old. On occasion. But then I look at my wallet.
