7 years of Beveraging Mondays—and many other days—with this guy. Sad he’s moving away, but happy for him for the new chapter in his life.

Comments Broken

My apologies to anyone who was trying to leave a comment as of late and could not. A plugin (or two) was breaking something on my site that stopped comments from going through, and would result in this message:

A big “Thank you!” to Blobby for letting me know, and for helping me test and fix it.

Well, hopefully it fixed it. 😉

Until next time...
Erik

High-Fidelity Fridays?

So… in an effort to attempt to blog a little more, I’m somewhat “borrowing” a schtick from Blobby at Blobby’s Blog. I guess this makes the second thing I’ve borrowed from him actually. Maybe one day I’ll come up with something of my own.

I have this method of ranking music in my library, which currently consists of 34,968 songs: By default, all new songs in my library get ⭐️⭐️⭐️. As I listen to them, I sort them as follows: ⭐️ means it’s “rubbish” (as Dr. Spo would say) and I’ll probably delete it from the library, ⭐️⭐️ means it’s just “meh” but I’ll probably keep it, ⭐️⭐️⭐️ means it’s okay and we will probably talk over it, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ means I really like and may potentially sing at random, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ means everyone better shut the fuck up because my song is on! You know the kind of songs I’m talking about. We all have them.

These are mine, one post at a time.

I’m starting my approach to this with songs I’ve given ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ to in iTunes. There’s only 90 of them at the moment. I’ll probably sneak in an occasional ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ as well.

For my first entry, I’m going with an song by a band I’ve loved since the 80s, thanks to a classmate a year ahead of me. I want to say I was probably in the 9th grade at the time. We rode the same bus to school together, and he often had headphones on and was jamming away to whatever was playing. He was my introduction to INXS. The album Kick to be precise.

But that’s not the album the song I’m bringing up is from. This one is from two albums and 5 years later. I don’t think Welcome to Wherever You Are was very widely received, at least here in the US. A lot of the people I knew at the time who were INXS fans seemed to have a certain disdain for the album. I, on the other hand, found it absolutely fabulous. Before I knew what fabulous was even. Such is the way I am though. I actually have more ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ songs from this album than I do any other INXS album. Maybe it was something about that time in my life in 1992 that drew me into it. But to this day I can still listen to the album from start to finish without the want to fast-forward anything.

But there’s one song I always go to first for some reason. And there’s a lot I love about the song: the rolling bass line, Michael’s vocals, the lyrics, and the intensity of the music as the song builds. (Sadly, the video is quote “meh”.)

It all just flows and for some reason seems like something that should play in those moments leading up to and including ecstasy. You know what I’m talking about. Not that cheesy “brown-chicken, brown-cow” moment, but that moment of passion where you’re rolling around and holding each other and sweating and touching and you ignore everything else around you except for that person you’re with at that moment until the stars explode. Okay, maybe the song isn’t that intense, but that’s the feeling it conjures in my brain.

I present you with INXS’ “Not Enough Time”, from the 1992 album Welcome to Wherever You Are:

Until next time...
Erik
