I suppose this stems from the tradition tattoo parlors are seedy places or reprobate living? Sort of like massage parlors before they became ‘spas’?
Sadly, that would be my guess as well. Even though my studio doesn’t have the look or feel of a traditional “parlor”, I suppose some people see the word “tattoo” and just assume…
Have you ever written on the stereotype/cliches of being a tattoo artist?
I have not. Yet. But now I have one started. Thank you!
I understand that with bands, the place to go for herb, bud and all the rest was the drummer. I never knew that tattoo were also considered to be go-to guys. During my years getting inked, I never got that kind of vibe in the two studios I frequented but then again, since I wasn’t looking, I may not have been aware.
I’ve been in some “seedier” tattoo shops where that was definitely something I assumed was happening in the back rooms. Actually, there is another tattoo shop here in the same town as mine that was recently busted for the exact same thing: http://5newsonline.com/2013/09/04/bentonville-businesses-busted-for-narcotics/
Haha! One time in a club in SF some guy came up to me on the dancefloor to ask me if I had any coke. Odd!
I’ve had total strangers approach me in clubs asking if I had stuff. I’m assuming because of my tattoos. Which also makes me angry.
