Day Five: Hangovers, Elvis, and Wanderings

A day with no driving! Well, at least no long distance driving. Thursday is the wedding day for our daughter.

The wedding wasn’t until 4, so in the morning the Husbear and I drove down to the strip and walked around the Venetian hotel/casino complex for a while.

On the way back to the hotel, we met one of my readers, Mike in LAS, crossing the road. He was there working, saw me, and said howdy! Howdy Mike. I’m sorry we didn’t get to spend more time together this trip.

We then headed back to our hotel, as the Husbear was doing our daughter’s hair before the wedding. Since he’s a cosmetologist and all. šŸ˜‰

After that, it was time for us to get ready and head to the chapel for the wedding.

We clean up well, don’t we?

The chapel didn’t allow photos of the wedding itself, as they have their own photographer and photo packages available for purchase. Such is the way of such things these days. šŸ™

The Husbear and I together walked our daughter down the aisle and gave her away to her to-be husband.

It was a happy wedding. And different. I’ve never seen an Elvis wedding before. Our daughter has a thing for the King.

And here is the newly married couple exiting the chapel.

And her father looking on…

After the wedding, we went for dinner with the newlywed couple and the guests.

The Husbear and I headed back down to the strip and wandered around through a majority of the hotel/casino complexes looking at things and people.

All that walking and excitement from the day wore us out, so it was time for bed.

Day Four: BFE, AZ to Hallowe’en Vegas

Wednesday morning we woke up early and left BFE and continued on to Vegas via Arizona and Utah. Repeatedly.

Ignore that bit in the map from Vegas on to Phoenix. I failed to take a picture of the route at the end of the day. I’m a slacker.

After driving through some scenic country…

…we finally arrived in Vegas. On Hallowe’en. Vegas. Hallowe’en. Let me tell you how many more freaky people there were than normal. Too many to count.

But we did the touristy things, which meant walk around, gamble, drink. Stare at people.

All of which resulted in a massive headache and hangover for me.

Day Three: Going Up and Down

Tuesday morning saw us leaving Thornton bright and early and beginning the journey to the SW corner of Colorado and into the upper NE corner of Arizona.

A lot of driving. Well, all of it was driving. As if we walked or levitated. Driving over the mountains. And little ski towns. And valleys. Into desert areas. Definite climate change.

We crossed over the continental divide several times. Here you can see the Husbear being a little more Atlantic-y at the time.

You don’t want to know what he did on the divide after that picture was taken.

We saw several road signs along the way that looked similar to this. Apparently all the Subaru Outback-driving hippies in the area don’t care.

Coming out of the mountains. Which oddly enough was near some town that had a “Welcome to the real South Park” sign hanging up. I didn’t see a rhinoplasty business.

At a rest stop, the Husbear decided to growl at me, which I caught on camera.

20121102-022709.jpg

No, not really. I was attempting to take a picture of myself when he walked into the shot and was yawn-talking and I turned my head to decipher. The picture makes me giggle.

There were still a few more mountain passes we went through. One of them had the road hugging this river, which we had to stop and look at in several locations when I could find enough shoulder space to pull over on.

And then there were a few overlooks that stunningly looked out onto valleys with little towns nestled in them.

Eventually, night fell.

20121102-023139.jpg

We had a difficult time finding a hotel that night. After driving a few hours more than we expected, and into Arizona, we happened across a scary little place in the middle of some Indian reservation. But we were just happy to find it, at a reasonable rate, and without any apparent axe murderers around.

What was even scarier was that there was no cell service in the area at all. Vast stretches of nothing.

I actually took a video of the scariness, but couldn’t get it to upload properly via my iPhone. It’ll have to wait until I get home.

In lieu of that, I’ll leave you with a picture the Husbear was kind enough to take of me before bed.
