Blobby‘s month to pick the theme. And we’re going with live music. I guess as opposed to dead music, although I’m not sure that’s a thing.

I narrowed down the next song to two performances, but couldn’t pick just one. So like a can of Pringles, you’re getting more than one.

I give you Capital Cities “Safe and Sound”:

And here’s a slower starting version of the song, which I also like:

There’s a big list of concerts I’d love to have seen. Most would involve a time machine taking me back to the late 80s and early 90s though. This one in particular is from 1987. Granted, I would have been 14 at the time, and had not yet discovered this band for myself. Not for another 4 years at least.

I give you Shriekback’s “Nemesis”, live:

And one song popped into my head first, so that’s what you’re getting.

Hootie & the Blowfish’s 1995 live cover of Stephen Stills’ 1970 song “Love the One You’re With”. And a few other songs mixed in with it. This is one of those medleys that has just stuck with me for the last 20 years. Damn. 20 years.

A Very Late Hi-Fi Friday: November 25, 2016

My turn to pick the theme this month with Blobby, and I finally went with songs about a particular city. It could be any city, but the song should be in some way about that city.

Which sounds really lame now that I have time to sit and think about it. But in for a penny, in for a pound.

I’m sorry this one is late. That whole upgrading my website thing.

While this one is not about a named particular city, it could be any city. This song holds a really weird place in my heart. Not for the song, but from a memory that’s evoked when I hear it. A very happy memory. So I’m using it this week.

I give you “Downtown”, by the one and only Petula Clark:

And I almost didn’t make this post on the day, as I’ve been working all day, and didn’t realize it was the new month until Blobby let me know yesterday evening. Such is the craziness.

So, for my first selection, I’m going with a cover, but one of my favorites.

I give you Lavay Smith’s version of the 1947 classic “Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans”, from her 2000 album “Everybody’s Talkin’ ‘Bout Miss Thing!”:

Blobby went with title songs for this month’s selection. Or the track selection with the same title as the album. He also opened it up to a lyrical phrase that is the title of the album, while it might not be the title of the song.

And this is the last one for me for this month. So hopefully I’m making it a good one. We could probably do this for an entire year and not run out of selections. Hmm….

I’m not sure if Blobby is going to let this one slide or not, but the album title is in the song title, but not fully the song title.

Confession: I went to see them on this tour. And enjoyed it. And have seen the lead singer perform here in Bentonville twice also. Doing the same songs. And if they’re ever in the area I’d go see them again. Just for the memories.

I always liked the delayed progression of each instrument entering the song at the beginning. And the bass line roll through the song. And the lyrics aren’t terribly horrible. For a hair band song.

I give you Poison’s “(Flesh & Blood) Sacrifice” from the 1990 album “Flesh & Blood”.

Until next time...
