Hi-Fi Friday: April 28, 2017

Blobby‘s month to pick the theme, and he chose days of the week. And made it tougher to boot: whatever day of the week you start with, you have to then go sequentially – so, if you start with a Tuesday, then your subsequent weeks have to be Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Blobby started with The Cure’s “Friday I’m in Love”. I thought for a wee bit about whether I should be smart/evil and start with a Saturday song, so I could kill any possibility of song choice overlap. I wonder if he thought about that with this?

I went the evil route, because… me.

Last week was a Tuesday song, so here goes Wednesday.

Wednesday.

Hmm… Wednesday.

Wednesday.

Hmm…

Only one came to mind, and there’s only 7 listed in my library. So we’re going with the one that came to mind, and that’s only because of the Husbear.

As my last was a Sunday song, this one is a Monday song. Unless I’m jumping back and forth across the International Date Line. But then things get all complicated.

Monday. Oh so many choices. New Order’s “Blue Monday”, The Bangles’ “Manic Monday”, Duran Duran’s “New Moon On Monday”, Fleetwood Mac’s “Monday Morning”, Jimmy Buffett’s “Come Monday”.

But I’m going all choking on a chicken leg with this one…

I give you The Mamas & the Papas’ 1966 “Monday Monday”:

This post was scheduled to post last Friday, but for whatever reason, WordPress failed me. And I didn’t realize it until now. So it’s late.

As my last was a Saturday song, this one is a Sunday song. There were, of course, a few obvious Sunday songs from the likes of U2, Blondie, Johnny Cash, and even Green Day. But I went a little farther back in time.

Written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King, I give you The Monkees 1967 “Pleasant Valley Sunday”:

I’m going the evil route, because… me. And I imagine this isn’t Blobby’s choice for a Saturday song anyway.

I give you Jimmy Buffett’s 1993 cover of Sam Cooke’s 1963 song “Another Saturday Night”:

Hi-Fi Friday: March 31, 2017

My turn to pick the theme for the month. After two other… failed… suggestions, we agreed upon songs by Irish bands. Seems appropriate with it being March and all?

My selection of Irish bands this month was damned harder than I expected it to be. My apologies to Blobby. But this is the last entry at least.

I was going to go evil and do a Clannad / Enya mashup for my last one, but I’ll be nice. Instead, I’ll give you a work of art.

I had zero idea this artist was Irish, and I’m not sure how I found out she was at all. Lucky for me she is, because my selection of Irish bands this month was damned harder than I expected it to be. My apologies to Blobby.

That said, I give you Imelda May’s 2010 rockabilly “Mayhem”:
