Ugh…

Let’s say this has been an interesting trip to Florida this year for Gay Days.

We did a little too much of the “go, go, go” stuff and we are all worn out. Next time, not so many theme parks and a lot more relaxation between events. I think we slept maybe an average of about six hours a night and were on the go all the others. I think that’s the only “bad” thing about traveling with a large group of friends—there is always something everyone wants to do.

I lost the digital camera and a few days of pictures. I’m still bummed about that. I purchased a “temporary” replacement so I could get some pictures during the days we had left. I bought the camera at a shop on International Drive. I think it “fell off the back of a truck”. And not a damn thing in the entire store had a price tag on it.

I also lost two cellphones (both the husbear’s and mine) at the same time. Luckily the cellphones were later found and returned to us. (My apologies to both Mike and Sorted for not calling—the lost cellphone incident and trying to herd a large group of people to do stuff the whole time killed my free time. I’ll email you both when I return home.)

I also didn’t visit with any of my family while I was down here. I’m sure I will hear about it later when they find out. I started thinking—and I am sure this is going to sound selfish—but they don’t make any effort to come visit me and “my” family. So why should I go out of the way to visit them every time I am down here in Central Florida? Yes I could be the “bigger man” here, but after so many years it has become a little one-sided.

Now the husbear and I are sitting at the Orlando airport waiting on our flights. Our connecting flight from Dallas to Tulsa was cancelled by the airline for “technical reasons”. Lucky we arrived at the airport early—we came early because friends who had to drop off the shared rental car had to catch an earlier flight. We had a friendly and helpful attendant find us seats on a later flight that—so far—hasn’t been cancelled. Now there is severe weather over Dallas, resulting in a delay of our first flight….

I just want to get home and sleep in my own bed.

Until next time...
Erik

  1. So you have had a mixed holiday then buddy. Well were glad your coming back as we missed ya! Sorry to hear about the camera, thats a real bummer buddy. Will be nice to see any pictures you were able to take with the other one though. As for families and visits we take that attitude too buddy. We used to do all the running and now we don’t as no one ever went out of there way for us. Sounds childish but as you say it all became one sided. Anyways safe flight home and chat soon. *hugs*

  2. Sorry about the electronics. At least you remembered to bring your camera. I routinely run off and leave mine sitting at home. *sigh*

I can totally relate on the family thing.

  3. Glad you had a good time and have a safe flight home.

And the family thing? Please. You did the right thing, and if they bitch about it, remind them that planes fly to where you live too.

  4. That’s all right. We have done the Gaydays thing and know how time flies when you are having fun. Glad the weather cooperated.

  5. No worries about the call. I know how hectic trips like this can be. Though you were within feet of me while purchasing the temp camera……

Besides, Sorted saw something shiny and forgot he’d given out his number anyway. 😉

  6. Dude! How does one manage to lose a camera and two cell phones in the span of 4 days???? Were ya DRUNK?

Sounds like a busy trip, but a fun trip nonetheless. I want stolen camera pictures!

  7. It appears that the family thing is a “common thread” among a lot of people. Maybe I should explore that a little.

    @cb:
What’s bad is I wasn’t drunk at all. I blame Universal in this case. The items in question fell out of my “deep” pockets at some point.

  8. Glad you’re home safe. As a guy whose mate works for an airline, I can assure you that they’re well aware of the problems with air transport in North America. And it’s only going to get worse.

Sorry to hear about your camera. I dropped mine — I have small hands and stubby li’l fingers — on a stone floor and, predictably, it’s fucked. Had to buy a new one this week so decided to go the cheap route and get a Canon point-n-shoot which so far seems almost as good as the crunched one. And I’m able to update my various online… um, er, profiles in a timely fashion.

I keep hoping some new form of transportation will take the airline industry’s place, but I think the world will end long before that happens. I remember toying with the idea several times in the past of being a flight attendant, but I don’t think there’s any way I would want to do it these days. It seems most travelers are grumpy because of the situation. Hopefully your mate enjoys what he does.

Small hands AND stubby li’l fingers, eh? Hmm… isn’t there a saying about that?

I’m all about the cheap-o cameras. The more expensive they are, the faster I will break or lose them. Granted, I do need to by one that takes decent quality pictures for the upcoming trip to New Orleans 🙂
