Pic a Day in May: May 4, 2015

Jim, formerly of Jim’s Stuff, started the “Pic a Day in May” challenge three years ago. I’ve done it each year, and will continue since that’s all I pretty much post these days. The only other bloggers that I’m aware of who are also doing this are Blobby of Blobby’s Blog and Patrick of Pac’s Pad.

Farmer, Ashley, and yours truly…

Today was the last official Beveraging Monday™ with the original two founding members of our little “club”. Both Farmer and myself have been beveraging together (almost) every week for the last seven+ years or so. He leaves this week to move to Chicago.

I’m going to really miss him. 🙁

Until next time...

The Husbear left me a little love note this morning that I found when I woke up… and a BLT also!

Not that I want to get in a tattoo rut, but today I did my first portrait tattoos. After almost a decade of tattooing. On a buddy, who pushed me and believed in me more than I did.

Here’s the result. Ish. Hard to get a flat photo in a round body part.

They will be much lighter when they heal. And I’m hoping they heal well.

Thank you, Patrick, for believing in me more than I do.

I was toying with doing these through Instagram, since that’s what I’m pretty much using all the time these days (and get posted here on my blog automatically as well). But in the spirit of actually writing something, I’ll do these old school style.

So for my first picture, I present this tattoo done tonight:

Hi-Fi Friday: May 1, 2015

Previously…

In an effort to attempt to blog a little more, I’m somewhat “borrowing” a schtick from Blobby at Blobby’s Blog. I guess this makes the second thing I’ve borrowed from him actually. Maybe one day I’ll come up with something of my own.

I have this method of ranking music in my library, which currently consists of 34,968 songs: By default, all new songs in my library get ⭐️⭐️⭐️. As I listen to them, I sort them as follows: ⭐️ means it’s “rubbish” (as Dr. Spo would say) and I’ll probably delete it from the library, ⭐️⭐️ means it’s just “meh” but I’ll probably keep it, ⭐️⭐️⭐️ means it’s okay and we will probably talk over it, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ means I really like and may potentially sing at random, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ means everyone better shut the fuck up because my song is on! You know the kind of songs I’m talking about. We all have them.

These are mine, one post at a time.

I’m starting my approach to this with songs I’ve given ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ to in iTunes. There’s only 90 of them at the moment. I’ll probably sneak in an occasional ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ as well.

It’s probably no secret (or maybe it is?) of my love for 1940s-era music. I couldn’t tell you why I love the 40s era music, but I do. The swingy/boogie-woogie/jazzy/bluesy-ness is just… awesomeness to my earholes. At my tattoo studio you can often find 40s music playing, which is probably somewhat confusing to people when they walk in.

So when something “new” comes along, I tend to fall for that too.

In 2006, Christina Aguilera released an album called “Back to Basics”. While I’ve never been a fan of hers, there is one song on the album I love. It’s done in a similar style to many songs performed in the 1930s and 40s by the likes of the Andrews Sisters, Cab Calloway, Carmen Miranda, etc. Add to the fact that the song is a little… risque. Of course I’m going to love it!

And it doesn’t hurt either that the video is actually done well.

Until next time...
