Give Me Back My Man

This is a two-fer song post. AND I opted for live performances this time too!

This first song is from the B-52’s second album “Wild Planet” that was released in 1980. There’s not a single song on that album that I don’t more than like. Every single song is danceable. But since I don’t dance well they’re all great to run to for you gym types!

Here is a 2009 performance of the 1980 song “Give Me Back My Man” featuring vocals by the great Cindy Wilson:

Then there’s the 1982 album “Mesopotamia“. This album is aurally a departure from what one expects from the B-52’s, due mostly to it being produced by David Byrne (of Talking Heads fame). And I’m not really a fan of this album, with the exception of the title track.

And now for some old B-52’s footage, all the way from a concert back in 1983. It’s strange to see footage with Ricky still alive and playing the guitar, and Keith on the drums instead of the guitar. Here’s the 1982 song “Mesopotamia”:

24 days until I get to see the B-52’s in concert!

Oh, and this post is mostly for Blobby. He’ll know why. 😉

Girl From Ipanema Goes To Greenland

1986. Wow. That seems like such a long time ago. And yet….

This to me is what the B-52’s “classic” sound is. When I think of them, it’s this kind of sound and melody. I have always been partial to their songs where Cindy and Kate have the lead vocals.

This is the second single released on their album “Bouncing off the Satellites”.

Tell It Like It T-I-IS

52 days until I get to see The B-52s in concert!

This is the first track on the 1992 album “Good Stuff”. This album sees the departure of Cindy Wilson from the band on a sabbatical, and I think the lack of the typically awesome female melodies shows.

But I still think there are quite a few great songs on it. Especially “Tell It Like It T-I-IS”:

Housework

This one’s for Blobby.

“Housework” was the B-side song on the “Summer of Love” single in 1986. Wow. 1986.

I don’t know that a real video was ever made for this song. The “Bouncing Off The Satellites” album was pretty much “abandoned” by the band following the death of guitarist Ricky Wilson in October 1985 from AIDS/HIV-related health complications.

I present you with “Housework”. Just imagine Blobby dancing around his house with a feather duster when you hear the song.

This “video” also has “Detour Thru Your Mind” and “Wig” appended to it. Give them a listen, especially “Detour Thru Your Mind”.

Until next time...
