I have this method of ranking music in my library, which currently consists of 34,968 songs: By default, all new songs in my library get ⭐️⭐️⭐️. As I listen to them, I sort them as follows: ⭐️ means it’s “rubbish” and I’ll probably delete it from the library, ⭐️⭐️ means it’s just “meh” but I’ll probably keep it, ⭐️⭐️⭐️ means it’s okay and we will probably talk over it, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ means I really like and may potentially sing at random, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ means everyone better shut the fuck up because my song is on! You know the kind of songs I’m talking about. We all have them.

These are mine, one post at a time.

I’m starting my approach to this with songs I’ve given ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ to in iTunes. There’s only 90 of them at the moment. I’ll probably sneak in an occasional ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ as well.

Okay, this one isn’t actually in my ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ or better list, but it’s a duet. My last official duet for the month.

This is one of those WTF kind of songs. Seriously. On so many levels.

And how this has not been picked up as a sing-along song at gay bars is beyond me. It seems perfect for that.

“Sniff Swig Puff”, by Rock Hudson and Bea Arthur:

I think this song taught me more drug slang than I ever knew before.

Until next time...

I’m not really sure if this counts as both a cover and a duet. But it’s one of those songs that I’ve loved since the long ago, both Aerosmith’s 1975 original version, and Run–D.M.C.’s 1986 version with them. The Run–D.M.C. version pretty much relaunched Aerosmith’s career again. And also got me into liking Run–D.M.C. when I was younger.

I present Run–D.M.C.’s “Walk This Way” featuring Aerosmith:

We’re still on with the duets.

One of those bands that got stuck in my brain when I was in high school was what later became the group known as The KLF. Most people either recognize that name from either the 1990 songs “What Time is Love?”, “3 a.m. Eternal”, or possibly the 1988 “Doctorin’ the Tardis” (done as The Timelords). A LOT of song samples were used on their earlier works that landed them in a lot of trouble with record artists and labels. But they were well done. In my brain at least.

I still have no idea how they managed to talk Tammy Wynette, the “First Lady of Country Music”, into doing this song, but they did. And it works. In my brain at least.

I present The KLF’s 1991 “Justified and Ancient (Stand By The JAMs)” featuring Tammy Wynette:

It’s been an event-filled week that I should probably blog about, but instead, I’ll take the time to get some soothing tunes out there.

Duets are the August theme. I “let” Blobby pick this month since he offered me the choice last.

And for my first, I’m going with Brian Setzer and Gwen Stefani. Two guilty pleasures all wrapped up in one!

I’ve always been a big fan of Brian Setzer, both with the rockabilly Stray Cats and later with the swing-sounding The Brian Setzer Orchestra. I suppose even some of his solo rock stuff is pretty good too.

And Gwen Stefani. Love! I’m probably one of a few people on the planet who do, but hey, I do. Since the early days of No Doubt (and even the later stuff that’s a little droll), and even some of her solo work, I do love me some Gwen.

And put them both together? Helloooooo!!!!!!!!

I present The Brian Setzer Orchestra performing “You’re the Boss” featuring Gwen Stefani.

Another Friday, the final drinking song. Or a song about drinking, rather. For this month, at least. I’m sure there will be more over time.

Most people will only know the 1977 George Thorogood cover of this song. But I still prefer the original as recorded by Amos Milburn in 1953. While I do like the Thorogood cover, I prefer the jazziness of Milburn’s version.

I present Amos Milburn’s “One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer”:

This one is probably too obvious and easy. But it’s fun, and apparently annoying to a lot of people. But I’ve always liked this song since it was released in 1997.

I present Chumbawamba’s “Tubthumping”:
