More Impending Doom at the Great Retail Empire?

I have heard from several unrelated sources that there will be more layoffs at the Wal-Mart Home Office this coming week.

Hopefully this is all rumor, but I'm not holding my breath.

I just hope none of the peeps I used to work with or the peeps I care about who are still at the OGRE at this time will be affected. I hope.

Until next time...
Erik

I have it on good authority this is happening. Haven't heard about it hitting ISD, but I wouldn't be surprised.

I know you have old ties there ans all but, all I can think is that the death of Walmart is nothing but good for every small town in America.

I loathe that place and what it has done to rural America

I'm by no means a Walmart "supporter". But I do support businesses that obviously did something correct at some point in time.

I think "small town" stores would have gone the way of the dodo even if Walmart didn't come along. Small town stores tend to be very non-competitive and the mark-up on products is greater. With the existence of the Internet and price-comparing, people would no longer be willing to pay that kind of mark-up. I sure wouldn't.

Walmart just sped up what would have naturally happened anyway. If Walmart wouldn't have done it, the Dollar General would have, or the Target, or the Kmart before that.

It's really too bad that I think America and Wal-Mart have become synonimous.

As one suffers, so does the other.

    Ameri-Mart.

How have you fared, leaving behind the Evil Ogre? Not so much financially, but do you miss the routine, etc.?

    • Erik Rubright replied to BearToast Joe on February 3, 2010 at 7:42 pm:

I don't miss the routine. But I do miss the technology I got to "play with" and the people I got to do that with. I don't miss the politics, or the stupidity.

According to the Husbear, I have been much happier since leaving. The only thing that has bothered me up to this point is not having that steady paycheck from which to budget with. Having two people who are self-employed in the household makes things interesting.
