The depressing part is not that people are told they are supposed to live that way, but that most do.

You are correct. I think he’s happy he doesn’t have to go back into the office ever again.
OMG! I have often thought about this very thing. What is the point of living? We get up… go to work… pay bills… do it all over again the next day and the next day and the next day. That is not living! UGH.
It all depends on how one defines “living” I suppose.
