Ugh…

Let’s say this has been an interesting trip to Florida this year for Gay Days.

We did a little too much of the “go, go, go” stuff and we are all worn out. Next time, not so many theme parks and a lot more relaxation between events. I think we slept maybe an average of about six hours a night and were on the go all the others. I think that’s the only “bad” thing about traveling with a large group of friends—there is always something everyone wants to do.

I lost the digital camera and a few days of pictures. I’m still bummed about that. I purchased a “temporary” replacement so I could get some pictures during the days we had left. I bought the camera at a shop on International Drive. I think it “fell off the back of a truck”. And not a damn thing in the entire store had a price tag on it.

I also lost two cellphones (both the husbear’s and mine) at the same time. Luckily the cellphones were later found and returned to us. (My apologies to both Mike and Sorted for not calling—the lost cellphone incident and trying to herd a large group of people to do stuff the whole time killed my free time. I’ll email you both when I return home.)

I also didn’t visit with any of my family while I was down here. I’m sure I will hear about it later when they find out. I started thinking—and I am sure this is going to sound selfish—but they don’t make any effort to come visit me and “my” family. So why should I go out of the way to visit them every time I am down here in Central Florida? Yes I could be the “bigger man” here, but after so many years it has become a little one-sided.

Now the husbear and I are sitting at the Orlando airport waiting on our flights. Our connecting flight from Dallas to Tulsa was cancelled by the airline for “technical reasons”. Lucky we arrived at the airport early—we came early because friends who had to drop off the shared rental car had to catch an earlier flight. We had a friendly and helpful attendant find us seats on a later flight that—so far—hasn’t been cancelled. Now there is severe weather over Dallas, resulting in a delay of our first flight….

I just want to get home and sleep in my own bed.

Until next time...

A study in Woof!

Today is the Tidal Wave Party at Wet ‘n Wild where there will be much wet frolicking happening, or so I hope to observe.

I haven’t had any free time yet to upload any of the pictures I have taken on our trip so far. I’m actually writing this post from my cellphone on our way to Universal Studios. (No, I’m not driving.) I thought it might be a little “slower” of a trip since there are four of us this time. But not so much. If anything, it’s been busier. Non-stop travel from point-to-point for different theme parks, concerts, bars and parties. I’ll need a vacation from this vacation.

Since I haven’t uploaded anything yet, this “pre-staged” hottie will have to do.

Woof

I wonder if I will bump into him here…

In the Mouse House

The husbear and I left the house at 2 AM to make the two hour drive to the Tulsa International Airport for our 6 AM flight to Orlando.

So far, so good.

Then, somehow at check-in, I managed to “accidentally” upgrade us to First Class. On our ONE hour jump flight to Dallas. How the hell did I manage that? I could have sworn it said Dallas to Orlando. Well, it’s a vacation… but I still feel stupid. The husbear is still making fun of me for it. Now I think he only deserves one hour of First Class treatment. I don’t want him to get used to it.

It’s also weird being the first people in the airport. We actually had to wait for the TSA drones to get here and clock in before we could even check in. Bizarre, bizarre, bizarre.

We landed in Dallas. The husbear says we are flying First Class more often from now on.

For the first time ever in the history of me flying, our connection in Dallas leaves from the exact same gate we landed at. Just in two hours…

That’s two hours of hot man watching in Texas… or not.

The husbear actually said this:
“I wonder if they [the pilots] have a Garmin up there to know where to go.”

I just gave him a look.

We have landed in the Mouse House. We met up with our cohorts from Arkansas who were waiting at the airport as well.

Watch out Orlando… the Arkansas gay contingent is in the house.

Almost time…

It’s that time of year again. Gay Days is almost upon us.

Gay Days 2003
Me and the husbear at Gay Days in 2003

The husbear and I usually make a pilgrimage to the Orlando-area every year at this time. And this year we’re coming down with two friends from the opposite side of the state!

We’ll be playing the roles of tourists this year. I know we’re going to see the Blue Man Group while we’re there. And there is the Tidal Wave party on Friday. Then there’s all the theme parks and hopefully a trip to the beach one day.

I was also hoping to have time to meet up with Sorted and Mike while we are there. I think we’re going to actually have a tight schedule while we’re down there, but I’m hoping to free up some time. And I still have to make some family time to see my new niece as well as the other nephew and niece (oh, and the siblings too).

Will anyone else be down in the Orlando-area next week?

Until next time...

Bear, or not?

TBRU banner

The Husbear and I returned home Sunday evening after being in Dallas since Thursday for TBRU (Texas Bear Round-Up). We were supposed to stay in Dallas until Monday but the husbear has been feeling under the weather since before we left, so we drove home Sunday.

Husbear passed out
The Husbear passed out on the drive home.

We attend events like this because: a) we live in the middle of nowhere; b) all the people we know live in the middle of somewhere; c) all the above. If you chose “c”, you chose wisely.

It was great to spend time with friends who live far away that were also in attendance. Overall we had a good time. The husbear always does. He is a social butterfly that loves to wander the crowd; be overly-friendly to complete strangers; and, Big Bertha only knows what (or who) else.

I am the opposite of the husbear. I’m really not one for events like this. I have a vague sense of “not fitting in” : I am not a gregarious person; I have a hard time striking up random conversations; I don’t flirt well (most of the time I don’t even know someone is flirting with me!); and, apparently I have issues with letting others in my “personal space.” All of the things that are par for the course at events of this nature. Yes—I fill the “nerd” stereotype—I’m more comfortable behind a keyboard than in a social situation.

How does one change these aspects about themselves? Do I even worry about it and just accept this is how I am? I feel like I’m a stick in the mud (no pun intended!) when I go to these things. I observe people and their interactions, but I just can’t seem to produce the same in myself.

Damned personal growth.

Suggestions?

Until next time...

The gay bar down in Fayetteville is called “Tangerine” (and I wish to your god that a straight person picked the colors out!). The “Tang” caters to the younger, college crowd. I feel old there. I think that’s why we tend to travel more these days—to go to cities with bars that have people in our same age groups.

Speaking of travel, we will be heading down to Dallas for TBRU in two weeks! Real men in a real city.

Oh—forget about attempting to get a “serious” picture from either of us… ever.

Until next time...
